At MHM Psychology we believe that everyone should be able to access affordable, quality psychotherapy services and offer a competitive rate for appointments. Although the cost of sessions varies under some circumstances, for most clients a fee of $250 is charged per session. With a Medicare referral, clients are eligible for a rebate of $137.05 leaving an out-of-pocket cost of $112.95. The cost of your session is processed on the day of your appointment and we have facilities on site to send your rebate request to Medicare for processing. Your Medicare rebate will be sent to Medicare and your rebate typically appears in your account in 1 to 2 days.
Medicare Rebates for your Psychology AppointmentsMost clients that attend appointments at MHM Psychology have been referred by their General Practitioner (GP). GPs complete a Mental Health Care Plan and will provide you with a referral letter to see your psychologist. This referral will allow you to get rebates from Medicare for your psychology appointments. Your referral will initially cover you for 6 rebated sessions, leaving the out-of-pocket costs mentioned above. If these 6 sessions are completed, you can again visit your GP who may be able to complete an additional referral for further rebated sessions. In total, Medicare can support up to 10 rebated psychology sessions each calendar year.
Self ReferralsIf you do not wish to visit your GP for a referral to see a psychologist at MHM Psychology, or if you have completed your Medicare appointments for the year, you can of course still call and schedule an appointment with your psychologist. However, without a referral no rebate can be claimed and the full cost of the session is paid for by the client.
Private Health CoverMHM Psychology can provide you with a receipt so that you can seek reimbursement from your private health insurance. Please check with your insurer about what your cover offers. For most insurers, private health insurance cannot be used to cover the out-of-pocket costs that remain after claiming a Medicare rebate.
WorkCover QueenslandSome clients referred to MHM Psychology have been referred by WorkCover Queensland or by their GP using a WorkCover Queensland referral form. There are no fees for clients if they have been referred in this manner and have an appropriate referral. If the WorkCover claim has not yet been approved, then the session costs are paid for by the client until the claim has been approved and psychological sessions have been granted. Once a claim has been approved, clients can consult with WorkCover for any expenses they have incurred. Often WorkCover will cover appointment costs while a claim is pending. You can always speak with your WorkCover consultant about your coverage.
CTP Insurance ClaimsSome people who have been involved in a motor vehicle accident experience distress related to their accident. In such cases clients may be covered for psychological support through CTP insurance. Speak with the CTP insurer about your coverage and if they will cover the costs of psychology appointments. Once approved by the insurance company, the expenses of your appointments will be covered by the insurer. Prior to approval, costs are paid for by the client, but may be reimbursed once the claim has been approved.
Department of Veterans AffairsWe accept referrals from DVA and Open Arms. DVA referrals cover the costs associated with your appointments (with the exception of missed or late-cancelled appointments). Your GP can refer you for psychological support under DVA if you are covered with a Gold or White card (referral type - D904), or past and currently serving military personnel AND their families can access appointments through Open Arms. Open Arms covers all costs associated with your psychology appointments. Open Arms can be contacted on 1800 011 046 and you can request to be linked with MHM Psychology.
